Welcome to Network Development (ND) Practitioner Group, a group of people promoting the use of one or more modeling principles of practice generalization in developing free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics. It is a place where it connects you with Editors, Initiators, Contributors, and Acceptors of free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics to learn, interact, share, and make things better for society, organization, customer, and people in creating common education. Moreover, the owner of Connecting Practice is positive that most people have a natural desire to learn, to share what they know, and to make things better. Yet, this natural desire is thwarted by disorder (hurdles and deterrents - a problem of cultural domination in learning, sharing, and improving our ND practice) that we erect in our organization. The disorder includes: 1. A culture that values personal technical expertise and knowledge creation over knowledge sharing. This is rampant in engineering and knowledge-based organizations, such as consulting and research firms. 2. An organization who disintegrates into a group of isolated camps With little incentive or lack of need or responsibility to share ND knowledge and/or practice with others. They promote “silo” thinking and hoard ND knowledge and/or practice, in which locations, divisions, and functions focus on maximizing their own accomplishments and rewards. Their question, “why should I share my ND knowledge and/or practice?” 3. An organization who allows or rewards not the people for taking the time to learn and share and help each other to improve knowledge and skills. 4. A leader who demonstrates the “not-invented-here” syndrome - it is the lack of experience learning from outside one’s on group - or refuses to bring in new ideas committed to an obsolete ND practice which once made the group successful, but which now threatens to sink it. S/he is unable to innovate or even reinvent the ND practice. 5. People who lack of contact, relationships, and common perspectives among others who don’t work side-by-side. In most organizations, the left hand not only doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, but it also may not even know there is a right hand. If you have one or more of this disorder, the administrator, moderator and owner of this forum invite you to join the forum and participate in discussing and sharing your free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics. By registering, it will involve and give you an opportunity to: - provide, solicit, model, recommend new, or question free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics;

In making an effort to provide the participants support and guidance in expressing openly their ideas, beliefs and/or emotions; answering any questions; clarifying any issues; and in discussing what they learned about practice, the following specific behaviors (Source:RCRA Corrective Action Workshop) might help the particpants to develop their participation skills and techniques on this forum: - Paraphrasing - Verbally summarize what you hear another say, and ask if it is accurate.
- Information or opinion seeking - Assess what information is relevant to the discussion, and ask others for that information or their opinion.
- Clarifying - State your ideas clearly and directly. Offer examples or illustrations.
- Summarizing - In two sentences or less, identify the main point(s) of what you just said.
- Testing ideas - Pose a questions such as, "what if we (insert idea)? What would be the benefits? The obstacles?"
- Integrating ideas - Combine the suggestions and ideas presented into a new idea.
- Information or opinion giving - Assess what information is relevant to the discussion, then provide helpful information or helpful opnion.
- Reducing tension - Offer some humor in discussion. Lighten up the situation by telling a "light" story.
- Setting standards - Suggest guidelines or minimum criteria against which the group might evaluate potential solutions.
I am confident that you can develop participation skills and techniques further on this forum.

Reasoning is giving reasons for what a person believes or decides to do. It is a process with a certain form (or pattern, or structure). The person must follow this form if it is to be done effectively, if it is to achieve a purpose - here it is encourage that the purpose is merely to arrive at well-justified conclusions and help fellow-participants do the same, who want to acquaint fellow participants with the bases of their beliefs and values and who want to discover the points where they and their fellows may agree or disagree. How can this purpose be achieved? The purpose can be achieved by following a certain process, namely, the reasoning process. The excerpt below are extracted from "A HANDBOOK ON REASONED DISCUSSION, The Committee for the Fourth R." The idea of a process with a certain form can be better understood by considering the example of arithmetic. Consider two additions:
23 23 +18 +18 ------ ----- 341011 41
Here we see two quite different answers. They are the results of two different processes with two different forms. In the left-hand example, 3 and 8 were added to get 11; then 2 and 8 were added to get 10; then 3 and 1 to get 4; and finally 2 and 1 to get 3. These sums were put down in order from right to left. Of course we know this answer is wrong. Why? Because we didn’t follow the pattern that the addition process must follow. The right-hand process has the proper pattern (adding vertical rows, carrying the extra digit), while the left-hand example does not.
We are justified in believing in the right-hand answer, 41, because of the correct process that led to it, and we are not justified in believing in the left-hand answer, because of the incorrect process that led to it. Indeed, any answer that derives from the process on the right is justified; any answer that derives from the process on the left is not.
Likewise with reasoning. When we go through the proper process – that is, a process with the proper pattern, or form, or structure – we arrive at a conclusion we are justified in accepting. Conversely, when we don’t go through the proper process, we are not justified in accepting the conclusion. (Of course, the reasoning process is much looser and rougher than arithmetic.)
You should consider this reasoning process as a model when you engage in discussion. With this model in mind, you can take the more-or-less formless flow of ideas and impose a proper order on it.
Reasoning, as a framework for thought, is immensely valuable, but we mustn’t view it as more than it really is. A couple of remarks to that point:
Following the reasoning process has nothing to do with what your views are. Think of a foreign-language class, say French, taught by the immersion method. It doesn’t matter what you say, but it must be said in French. Similarly, reasoning encompasses any views you may wish to express, as long as they conform to the reasoning process. (This is why the term “reasoning” is used and not “reasonable,” which is usually used to evaluate particular beliefs or decisions.)
When we reason together, there is no guarantee that we will all arrive at the same conclusion. Reasoning only helps find agreement where agreement is possible and helps us understand and respect each other’s opinions where disagreement remains. Also it helps guarantee that whatever opinion a person arrives at will be justified.
I am confident that you can develop reasoning process skills further on this forum. Reference: A HANDBOOK ON REASONED DISCUSSION, The Committee for the Fourth R, Lakewood Public Library URL Address: http://www.lkwdpl.org/cffr/handbook.htm

Expressive skill is an important communication skills that you could use to state your point of view non-defensively and/or convey information to which you have accessed to another person. This includes their behavior and your beliefs and feelings (and perhaps intentions). It is an advantage to convey as much as possible of this information by describing specific things and actions. The other person can then most easily verify it.
Sample Formula: When you say... (i.e. the other's behavior), then I am obliged to do or prevent from doing... (i.e. the material outcome or consequences for me). I assume you're trying to do... (i.e. here you express your beliefs about the other motives). In return I feel like doing... (i.e. your emotional response). I intend to... though I actually... (i.e. your actual reaction or response).
You can put together the necessary information by asking yourself these questions:
1. What precisely does s/he says? 2. what are the material outcomes or consequences for me of this behavior? 3. If relevant, what do I assume she is trying to accomplish with these actions? 4. If relevant, what do I then feel like doing in response (that is, what is my emotional response)? 5. If relevant, how do i intend to act in response? 6. If relevant, how do I actually react or response?
I am confident that you can develop expressive skills further on this forum.

Process skill is another important communication skills that you could use to manage interaction on this forum. Managing interaction is about choosing priorities - deciding what can most usefully be tackled first or next.
To communicate well, you need courage to challenge the process of exchanging information - whose concerns to work on and what sort of information to exchange? The result, for both parties, is a clearing of the air and an improved relationship.
Priority of concern to address: 1. A mutual concern is often the main object of the exercise. Despite this, it is usually more effective to deal first with process issues and then the other person's concerns. The other person's concerns are usually best given next highest priority. Such concerns are usually identified by some wish on the other person's part to change your behavior. The other person is more likely to give attention to your concerns, or to mutual concerns, if her own concerns are first addressed and resolved. 2. Last in priority are your own concerns.
I am confident that you can develop process skills further on this forum.

The Forum Structure serves as a source of collaborative advantage in shaping ND practice programs. It aims to develop foundations for future working relationships. Moreover, the modeling approach of the Forum Structure is to present and break the ND practice programs down into separate settings and/or objectives like a tool kit. This is to make the Forum Structure more comprehensible and enable the organization and people to incorporate their free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics in conceptual formation. [Currently, the Forum Structure have eight distinct camps characteristically as follows: - Message Center Board is a strategic information that serves some aspect of the forum;
- Materials Conversation Board provides the people to create a place for the development of free ND practice standards, policies, templates, checklists, criteria, and guidelines Conversation;
- Procedures Conversation Board provides the people to create a place for the development of free ND practice methods, techniques, and/or know-how steps Conversation;
- Tools Conversation Board provides the people to create a place for the development of free ND practice tools conversation;
- Trainings Conversation Board provides the people to create a place for the development of free ND practice trainings conversation;
- Metrics Conversation Board provides the people to create a place for the development of free ND practice measurements and indicators conversation;
- Reinforcement Conversation Board is an act and/or a support that strengthen approved free ND practice behavior, response, and/or performance conversation; and
- ND Practice Questions Board provides the people to create a place for posting questions about ND practice goals & targets, processes, programs, materials, procedures, tools, trainings, metrics, reviews, criteria, reinforcements, and/or related matters.
Furthermore, the Forum Structure must provide space wherein it can create a place for the development of free ND practice material, procedure, tool, training, and/or metric ideas and choice behaviors; it must adopt a process that balances development, collection, and presentation of free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics. Without this place, then it might destroy or damage fresh ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics; and new beginnings to emerge and nurture in the future. Another, it must characterize by those free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics as a workable tool kits for organization and people. Further, the Forum Structure must form a basis for free ND practice materials, procedures, tools, trainings, and/or metrics that is common and cyclical in nature.

Do not use the forum for disseminating instructions, directions, codes, scripts, viruses or other materials or software aimed at limiting or disabling the operation of the forum. 18. A good rule of thumb: Be conservative in what you post and liberal in what you read. 19. Be patient and courteous in your communication. Our group members are from many countries and cultures and from all levels of professional development. Learn to communicate with kindness and respect. We are all here to learn and share, and ask that you do so freely and cordially. 20. Ask questions or offer opinions, ideas, advice, and suggest resources that can help someone with a problem or a question. How Do I Write Good Messages? 1. Keep messages and paragraphs short and to the point. 2. Post should have a subject heading which reflects the content of the message. 3. If you are posting a reply to a message, always place an appropriate title in the subject header, or check to make sure the one that shows in your reply is appropriate. Be sure you indicate the topic and summarize the original material at the top of the message, or include just enough text of the original material to give a context. This will make sure readers understand when they start to read your response. For example: "Here is my personal opinion about ... ", or "Here is a list of studies and references that I can suggest regarding.:, or "It's my understanding that...", or "I believe it's the case...." 4. If you are re-posting a message you've received, do not change the wording. If the message was a personal message to you and you are re-posting to the forum, you should ask permission first. You may shorten the message and quote only relevant parts, but be sure you give proper attribution. 5. Use discretion when posting a long message. It's a good practice to include the word "Long" in the subject header so the readers knows the message will take time to read. Over 100 lines is considered "long". 6. Messages and articles should be brief and to the point. Don't wander off-topic, don't ramble and don't post messages solely to point out other people's errors in typing or spelling. These, more than any other behavior, mark you as an immature beginner. 7. Remember that the reader is a human being whose culture, language, and humor have different points of reference from your own. Remember that date formats, measurements, and idioms may not travel well. Be especially careful with sarcasm. 8. Use smiley to indicate tone of voice, but use them sparingly. :-) is an example of a smiley (Look sideways). Don't assume that the inclusion of a smiley will make the recipient happy with what you say or wipe out an otherwise insulting comment. 9. Cite all quotes, references and sources and respect copyright and license agreements. 10. Take care in what you write. 11. If you should find yourself in a disagreement with one person, make your responses to each other via mail rather than continue to post messages to the list. If you are debating a point on which the list might have some interest, you may summarize for them later. 12. Surround a word with symbols for emphasis. That *is* what I meant. 13. Use mixed case. Capitalize words only to highlight an important point. Capitalizing whole words that are not titles is generally termed as SHOUTING and considered quite rude. 14. Use the underscore symbol before and after the title of a book for underlining. _War and Peace_ is my favorite book. 15. Acronyms can be used to abbreviate when possible, however messages that are filled with acronyms can be confusing and annoying to the reader. Examples of acronyms commonly used are: IMHO= in my humble/honest opinion FYI = for your information BTW = by the way Flame = antagonistic criticism 16. Should a personal conflict arise with someone in our forum, first try to resolve it directly with the other person by email (not through the list). If that fails to bring about an amicable resolution, notify Danilo Alsonado < danilo.alsonado@yahoo.com.ph>.
